Preventive maintenance services equipment at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals. That catches worn parts, leaks and other issues before they cause a breakdown in the middle of a job. Planned service can also be scheduled around your work, so equipment is out of commission on your terms rather than during an emergency. An equipment maintenance program with automated scheduling makes sure no service gets missed. Factory-direct parts availability also shortens the time equipment spends in repair. For cold-weather tips, see Construction Fleet Maintenance Tips for Winter Operation and Storage.
Preventive maintenance is scheduled at set intervals, such as calendar dates, run hours or the manufacturer’s recommendations, regardless of the equipment’s condition. Predictive maintenance for equipment uses real-time data, such as telematics usage and performance readings, to predict when service is actually needed. That way, maintenance happens before a failure but not earlier than necessary. United Rentals combines both, using telematics and advanced technology to monitor usage and schedule service before you have to make a call.
