How To Choose the Right Pump, Tank & Filtration Equipment

Fluid Type & Volume To Manage

  • Identify what you’re moving or storing, such as clean water, slurry or chemicals, along with total volume
  • Fluid characteristics determine the right pump materials, seals, tank and filtration equipment to avoid failures and leaks
  • Choose containment berms or tanks when storing liquid waste and rent roll-off boxes when storing solid waste
Fluid type

Flow Rate, Pressure & Storage Capacity

  • Determine how fast you need to move the fluid and the pressure created by elevation change and hose runs to choose the right pump rental
  • If the goal is storage, confirm the required capacity and how quickly the fluid containment system must fill or draw down
  • Choose tanks for large projects requiring storage of up to 1 million gallons and rent boxes for smaller projects requiring up to 5,000 gallons
Flow rate

Site Conditions & Containment Requirements

  • Review site conditions like access, slopes and proximity to drains or sensitive areas so you can plan safe placement of your tank rental
  • If spills are a risk, choose pump rentals and accessories that support secondary containment and easy cleanup
  • Measure access points, turning space and placement space to ensure smooth delivery, setup and operation

FAQs
Which water filter removes the most contaminants?

Industrial water filters remove impurities from industrial and construction runoff, groundwater and stormwater. These impurities can range from sediment and particles to minerals, odors and more. Please contact United Rentals to find the right filtration system and size for your requirements. Need help choosing a water filter? Contact Fluid Solutions for more guidance.

What are the benefits of tank mixing?

Tank mixing saves labor as it mixes fluids faster than by hand and automatic models save even more by keeping containers full and at stable temperatures while unattended. Tank mixing is also more accurate than hand mixing and safer because workers have less contact with concentrates.

What is the difference between a water pump and a trash pump?

Also known as wastewater pumps, sewage pumps or sludge pumps, trash pumps are designed to transport liquids that contain hard and soft solids, such as leaves, twigs, pebbles, silt and mud. Most trash pumps are centrifugal pumps. Although water pumps move liquid at a higher pressure than trash pumps, water pumps often jam when used to move murky water or water that contains pebbles or other solids.
